For me, the process of writing involves being in a liminal state—a state between consciousness and unconsciousness. Some people may refer to it as a "flow state." To get into this state, I lay down, get really comfortable, and let my mind drift to the edge of sleep. At this point, the ideas seem to flow in. I get up, go to the computer, and start writing. Ninety percent of the time, it works. I get new ideas and begin writing.
If you find yourself stalled in your writing, try this simple technique to see if it doesn't call up some ideas.
